A Sticker Is an Image Plus a Line the Blade Follows
A sticker leaves the screen and becomes an object, and the machine that makes it has tolerances. A cutting blade tracks your outline with roughly a millimeter of slack, sheets shift slightly as they feed, and vinyl stretches. Every one of those adds up at the edge, which is why the thick white border around a die-cut sticker is not decoration. It is the margin that absorbs the error, and a design that does not have one comes back with the artwork clipped along one side.

How it works
The reference is scaled to about one and a fifth megapixels and repainted at 0.8 denoise. The instruction asks for bold simplified shapes in saturated flat color, confident outlines, and a thick even white border following the subject's outline the whole way round, centerd with clear space outside it.
Two of its clauses are about manufacturing rather than looks: the border must be even all the way round, and the outline must stay free of thin spikes and narrow protrusions.
The negative prompt is a list of production defects — a thin border, an uneven border, a missing border, thin protrusions, spikes, fine tendrils, a subject touching the frame edge — because those are what a sticker fails on, and none of them look like errors on a screen.
The border is the tolerance
It is easy to read the white outline as a style, since every sticker has one and they look good. The reason it exists is mechanical.
Printing and cutting are two separate passes on two separate registrations. The print lands where it lands, the blade tracks a path, and the two agree to within some tolerance — commonly around a millimeter on affordable equipment. Add sheet feed drift and vinyl stretch and the worst case grows.
If your artwork runs right up to the cut path, that error eats into the artwork. With a two or three millimeter white margin, the same error eats into white, and nobody can see it. This is the same idea as bleed in ordinary printing, applied to an irregular shape.
Which is why border thickness is the number to take from your printer rather than from a preference, and why an uneven border is a defect even where it is thickest.
Silhouettes that survive a blade
The shapes that make good stickers are not the ones that make good illustrations, and the difference is worth internalising before you generate fifty candidates.
A blade has a turning radius. It cannot follow a hairpin between two leaves, and where it tries, it overshoots. So concave detail below a few millimeters is either lost or messy.
A border needs room. Around a protrusion narrower than twice the border width, the two sides of the margin meet and the border disappears — which means the cut runs through your artwork exactly at the most fragile point.
And thin vinyl fingers peel. The corner of a sticker that lifts first is always the narrowest one, and once it lifts it takes the rest with it.
So compact, convex, chunky. A cat curled up rather than a cat mid-stretch. This constraint is why so much sticker art looks the way it does, and it is a physical fact rather than a fashion.
What still has to happen in a real tool
Honest scope: this page gets you the picture, and there are three steps after it.
The cut path has to be drawn as vector, to the printer's template and channel naming. The artwork has to be placed at physical size with the border measured in millimeters rather than percent. And the color has to survive the print process, which for saturated flat fills means checking against the printer's gamut rather than trusting a screen.
None of those are hard, and all of them are skipped by people who assume that a sticker-shaped PNG is a sticker. The moment to find out otherwise is not after ordering five hundred.

Frequently asked questions
Does this output a cut file?
No. It produces artwork with a drawn border, which is a picture of a cut line rather than a cut path. Printers want a vector path — often on a spot channel named CutContour or similar — and their template will tell you exactly how. The drawn border shows you the shape that path should take.
How thick should the border be?
Follow your printer's spec, but two to three millimeters at final size is a common floor, which on a 75mm sticker is a few percent of the width. Thinner borders are possible with better machines and are the first thing to blame when artwork comes back clipped.
Why do thin shapes fail?
Three reasons at once. The border cannot fit around a protrusion narrower than twice the border width, the blade cannot turn a tight radius accurately, and a thin vinyl finger lifts at the edge and peels. Simplifying the silhouette is not an aesthetic preference in this medium.
What about transparent backgrounds?
This page produces a plain background rather than transparency, because the border is what defines the sticker shape here. If you need a cutout with an alpha channel, the transparent PNG page does that job properly and this one does not.
